State Record Smallmouth

Howard Hardin from Stockton, California landed a huge smallmouth bass on July 3rd 2007. This lunker of a smallmouth smashed the old state record by almost 3/4 of a pound! Hardin a 62yr old angler was working a charcoal swim bait in the Mokelumne River, when he hooked up with the smallie. He claims this time of year the smallmouth are up in the shallows with rocky cover. Early in the week before his big catch he had seen a couple largemouth bass chasing bait fish where he was fishing, this lead him to believe there was some big fish near. He was right…

Moklumn River, is just north of Padre Lake. This lake is no stranger to large smallmouth bass. It’s previous record was 8.7 lbs. Many claim this lake is just getting better as the years go by and think the lake is going to get as good as Dale Hollow Lake when it comes to bass fishing.
