Fishing a drop shot rig for bass has proven to be one of this most successful bass fishing techniques for me. Bass anglers have many names for drop shot rigs, you may hear them being called the down shot or under shot too. With a drop shot rig you plastic worm or whatever you a throwing will not hit the bottom. It will stay suspended a couple inches from the bank as long as you keep your line tight. Now you can control how many inches you want to keep it suspended. I like to stay between 10-12 inches in shallow water. I love having a foot or so of line before the weight. Keeping your tube, worm, or fluke off the bottom will give the lure some good action that bass love! Drop shooting lizards have been the most successful for me followed by plastic craw fish. It really all depends on where your fishing and the water type. The weight you should use when drop fishing would be a bell weight. I love to use something heavy, they heavy their white the more action your plastic will have. You can really whip around a plastic with a heavy weight giving it a strong and steady presence. If you are going for a fineness technique I would use a lighter weight. Some really good drop shot weights can be found at the Tackle Warehouse. This weights are great and not very expensive. This rig works great in very deep water, when going after suspended. bass. If you find a group of bass on your fish finder, through your rig right in the middle of them. Work the worm like you would a Texas rig. In deep water you may want to use a very long lead, some bass fishermen use leads are long as 5 feet! There are many ways to work a drop shot rig when fishing for bass. A good rule of thumb is the deeper the water the longer the lead. If you have yet to fish a this rig you should really try it you may just find you new favorite bass fishing technique. Post a comment
