Chatterbaits are the hottest lure to hit the market since spinnerbaits first hit way back when. I have literally caught more bass on these lures than any other bass lure. A chatterbait is a swimming jig with a dozer type blade up front. You can burn a chatterbait, slow roll it, or work it like you normally would work a jig. Either way you retrieve this lure will catch you a lot of bass. When chatterbaits first came about, they were selling on eBay for a lot of money! Many people who had purchased chatterbaits before the word got about how powerful were the ones selling them. This was because Rad Lures (founder and creator of Chatterbaits, correct me if I am wrong) could not produce them as fast as they were selling. They could get lots of money for these lures, because bass fishermen would do anything to get their hands on this lures. Chatterbaits have won lots of bass tournaments over the last year. Now almost every fishing tackle store has them on their shelves. A chatterbait will run you about $6.50, and it will be a well spent 6 bucks when you land some monster bass!

Howard Hardin from Stockton, California landed a huge smallmouth bass on July 3rd 2007. This lunker of a smallmouth smashed the old state record by almost 3/4 of a pound! Hardin a 62yr old angler was working a charcoal swim bait in the Mokelumne River, when he hooked up with the smallie. He claims this time of year the smallmouth are up in the shallows with rocky cover. Early in the week before his big catch he had seen a couple largemouth bass chasing bait fish where he was fishing, this lead him to believe there was some big fish near. He was right… Moklumn River, is just north of Padre Lake. This lake is no stranger to large smallmouth bass. It’s previous record was 8.7 lbs. Many claim this lake is just getting better as the years go by and think the lake is going to get as good as Dale Hollow Lake when it comes to bass fishing. |
